<p><strong>About the Role:</strong><br />
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to support experimental and analytical activities as part of the Heavy Industry Low-carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre (HILT CRC). Working under the guidance of the Academic Project Lead and Senior Research Fellow, this position is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on research environment, as is passionate about laboratory experimentation, research support, and sustainable innovations.</p>
<p>You’ll be conducting leaching and electrodialysis experiments, analysing results using ICP-OES, PSD, XRD, and SEM techniques, and preparing data for reports, presentations, and stakeholder engagement.</p>
<p><strong>Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Planning, preparing, and conducting laboratory experiments.</li>
<li>Analysing experimental data and contributing to progress reports and scientific publications.</li>
<li>Undertaking literature reviews and assisting with materials for conferences and workshops.</li>
<li>Liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders.</li>
<li>Maintaining data records and contributing to research database upkeep.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Who we are looking for – Selection Criteria:</strong><br />
<strong>Essential Criteria:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Chemistry, Metallurgical Engineering (Honours preferred) or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.</li>
<li>Demonstrated experience in relevant scientific/research methods, techniques and protocols. Practical lab experience and familiarity with electrochemical or metallurgical processes will be highly regarded.</li>
<li>Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills with the ability to coordinate activities and prioritise tasks.</li>
<li>Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to collate and report on data.</li>
<li>Skills in data analysis and reporting using software such as Excel or other scientific tools.</li>
<li>Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a collaborative research team.</li>
</ol>
<p>Desirable:</p>
<ol>
<li>Previous experience with laboratory safety protocols.</li>
<li>Familiarity with instrumentation including ICP-OES, PSD, XRD, or SEM.</li>
<li>A flair for scientific writing.</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Role Requirements: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>As this is a fixed term role, you will require work rights in Australia that match the tenure of the role to be considered.</li>
