Texan solar module manufacturer SEG Solar is planning for a new module production plant in the Lone Star State, company officials say, with commercial operations expected to begin in Q3 2026.

At nearly 500,000 square feet, the Houston-area facility represents a companywide investment of over $200 million. The plant also expects to provide 800 jobs to the Harris County area. The expansion is part of a long-term strategy by SEG Solar to localize its manufacturing efforts, representatives say, with the end result making the firm one of the largest 100% U.S.-owned module manufacturers in the industry.

The facility “marks an important milestone for SEG,” according to Timothy Johnson, VP of Operations of SEG Solar. Johnson has been with the company since March of this year, following a seven year stint at ENGIE.

“(The new plant) will further strengthen our U.S. manufacturing capabilities while supporting ongoing technology innovation,” he says. “The plant is designed with the flexibility to integrate next-generation technologies, including HJT, as the industry evolves.”

The announcement builds on the success of the first 2 GW solar module factory, and will add 4 GW more to the company’s manufacturing capacity. The new factory also follows the company’s previously announced plan to develop a 5 GW ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Indonesia. That plant commenced construction in September 2024, and is expected to come fully online sometime this quarter.

Once both plants are completed, the company says it will be able to provide a full supply chain of ingots, wafers, and solar cells. Fully domestic manufacturing has become increasingly important, the company says, as supply chain issues and policy changes continue to affect the wider solar landscape. SEG officials also say the company has been verified as a non-PFE for FEOC compliance purposes.
