<p>Chinese polysilicon and PV module manufacturer Tongwei announced it achieved a 93.08% bifaciality factor in a 770 W solar module based on tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) solar cell technology.</p>

<p>The result, which represents a world record for the bifacial technology, was verified by German certification body TÜV Rheinland. </p>

<p>The module has a power conversion efficiency of 24.8% and y temperature coefficient of -0.26%/C. </p>

<p>&#8220;Higher bifaciality allows the modules to generate much more power from the rear side—delivering a free energy bonus,&#8221; the manufacturer said in a statement. &#8220;For a 100MW solar plant in Hamburg, Germany, this configuration generates an extra €180,000 ($205,844) in revenue annually compared to standard modules, unlocking an extra 81.62 million kWh of clean electricity over its lifetime.&#8221;</p>

<p>In July 2025, Tongwei announced it achieved <a href="https://www.pv-magazine.com/2025/07/01/tongwei-achieves-91-7-bifaciality-factor-for-722-w-topcon-solar-module/?utm_source=chatgpt.com">91.7% bifaciality factor in a 722 W TOPCon module</a>. &#8220;Reaching 95% cell bifaciality and 90% module bifaciality in mass production is a big challenge but we believe in the coming one or two years this will be possible,&#8221; the company said at the time. This result was obtained with TOPCon cell with a bifaciality of 94.3%. </p>

<p>The company’s researchers explained that the result was made possible by two innovations in the cell design – a selective sunken pyramid structure and a zebra-crossing passivation contact. As for the first one, it helped optimize the rear texture of the non-electrode area of the cell rear side, while the second one was reportedly able to improve the passivation of the <a href="https://www.pv-magazine.com/2022/03/04/p-type-vs-n-type-poly-si-siox-passivating-contacts/" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">n-type passivating contacts based on polysilicon and </a>silicon monoxide (SiO<sub>x</sub>). </p>

<p>No further technical details about the technological breakthrough were revealed.</p>
