<p>Photovoltaic systems installed in Germany supplied just over 12 TWh of electricity to the public grid for the first time in July, according to data from the Energy-Charts platform compiled by Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE.</p>

<p>The platform recorded 12.0355 TWh for the month, breaking the previous monthly record set in June. In June, the 11 TWh mark was exceeded for the first time.</p>

<p>The figure also represents a significant increase from July 2025, when photovoltaics fed 8.376 TWh into the public electricity grid. Germany&#8217;s cumulative installed solar capacity stood at just over 107 GW then, compared with 125 GW today. </p>

<p>Germany also recorded substantially more sunshine hours in July than a year earlier. The German Meteorological Service (DWD) said the country experienced an &#8220;unusually high&#8221; 272 hours of sunshine during the month, around 30% above the 1961-1990 average of 211 hours. By comparison, July 2025 recorded just 189 hours of sunshine.</p>

<p>&#8220;In some areas, the southwest approached record levels. Regionally, the area recorded between 325 and 350 hours of sunshine, averaging 11 to 12 hours of sunshine per day,&#8221; the DWD said.</p>

<p>The latest analysis from Energy-Charts follows its report last week that photovoltaics supplied <a href="https://www.pv-magazine.com/2026/07/31/solars-share-of-eu-electricity-demand-tops-20-for-three-consecutive-months/" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">more than 20%</a> of EU electricity demand in May, June and July for the first time. In Germany, the solar share of electricity demand exceeded 30% for the first time, remaining above threshold across each month. Fraunhofer researchers recorded a share of 30.3% in May, 30.4% in June and a preliminary 31.6% in July.<br /></p>
